Profile guide

Building your profile

Signing up takes a few minutes. Your profile can take as long as you like: six short steps, every one of them optional, saved as you move between them. This guide walks through what FindLove asks for, what each step is for, and how your profile goes live.

The short version

Four details to start

Sign-up asks for a display name, who you're seeking, your intent and your country. Your full name and date of birth stay private; your profile shows your age and gender.

Six steps, all optional

About you, Education, Work history, Background and values, Photographs and links, and What you are seeking. Fill in as much or as little as you like.

Live while we review

Members can find your profile while our team checks it. Once it's approved, you can pause it whenever you need a break.

Signing up

What you tell us when you join

The sign-up form has two halves: private details for your account, and the first few details of your dating profile.

Private details for your account

Your full name, date of birth and gender. They are used for official communication. Your profile starts with your gender and shows your age, never your full name or date of birth. You must be 18 or older to join.

The start of your dating profile

A display name, the gender you're seeking, your intent and the country you live in now. These become your profile, which may be visible to other members.

Confirm your email

After you create your account, we email you a link to confirm your address. Use the button in that email to finish.

Signing up with Google

Choose "Continue with Google" and you don't need a password. You fill in the same private details and profile details as everyone else.

"Finish signing up"

If your account is missing your full name, date of birth or gender, for example because you joined through another FindLove site, we ask for them, and who you're interested in, before you continue.

Change them later

Your private details are under Settings, then About you. That page also holds your phone number. Your intent and the rest of your profile are edited in onboarding.

Onboarding

Six steps, saved as you go.

You can take the steps in order or jump between them. Each one has its own "Visible to" setting, and nothing in them is required: a sparse profile is perfectly acceptable.

Each step saves when you leave it, whether by Next, the step list or "Save and close", which stops at any point. "Finish" on the last step takes you to your profile preview.

  1. Step 01

    About you

Display name, date of birth (only your age is shown), where you live down to the city, languages, height in centimetres, whether you'd relocate, a section in your own words, and your intent.

  2. Step 02

    Education

Up to 10 qualifications, each with a field of study, institution and years. You can hide an institution's name and show only the qualification.

  3. Step 03

    Work history

Your current profession and industry, then up to 10 roles with organisation, city and years. Mark one role as your current one.

  4. Step 04

    Background and values

Religion and how observant you are, marital status, children, family background, up to six values that matter to you, diet, alcohol and smoking.

  5. Step 05

    Photographs and links

Up to five photographs, each with a description and its own audience, plus social and professional links that only friends you've accepted can see.

  6. Step 06

    What you are seeking

Who you're seeking, a preferred age range, where they live, your timeline, how much five things matter to you, and anything else worth saying.

Your answers

Required, optional and prefer not to say

You never have to answer more than you're comfortable with.

Required: only what you gave at sign-up

The six onboarding steps have no required fields. The completion gauge measures the optional detail you've added, not whether your profile is allowed to go live.

"Prefer not to say" is a real answer

Religion, how observant you are, children, diet, alcohol and smoking all start at Prefer not to say. Leave them there and nothing is shown for them.

"Doesn't matter" and "No preference"

In What you are seeking, each of the five things you can weigh starts at Doesn't matter, and where they live and your timeline start at No preference.

An age range needs both ends

Give a minimum and a maximum age, both 18 or over, or leave both blank. Your preferred age range and the gender you're seeking shape the introductions you receive each day.

Hidden is always an option

Fill in a section and set it to Hidden, and it stays off your profile until you're ready to share it.

Intent

The one answer everyone sees

You choose your intent when you sign up, and you can change it in the About you step at any time. It is always shown on your profile and can't be hidden, because it decides who you meet.

Marriage-minded

You meet members who are marriage-minded, and members who are open to either.

Dating seriously

You meet members who are dating seriously, and members who are open to either.

Open to either

You meet members with any intent, and you appear to marriage-minded members and to members dating seriously.

Photographs

Up to five, each with its own audience

Photographs live in the Photographs and links step, and in Edit Photos in the app.

File types and size

JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 10 MB each. You can have five photographs at a time: remove one to upload another.

A description for each

Add a short description, such as "At work". It's optional, and you can change it whenever you like.

Choose who sees each one

Every photograph has its own audience, from Members only to Hidden. New photographs start with Members only visibility, so check each one before you move on.

You don't have to show any

A profile without photographs can still go live. Until you open at least one photograph up, people browsing won't see what you look like.

Going live

Where your profile stands

Every new profile is checked by our team. You don't have to wait for the check to start: members can find you, and you can keep editing, while it happens.

Waiting for review

Every new profile starts here. Members can discover you and you can keep editing while our team reviews your profile.

Active

Our team has approved your profile. Members can discover you, and you can now pause it.

Paused

You've paused your profile, so it's hidden from discovery until you resume it.

Archived

The profile has been archived and can no longer be used or edited.

Suspended

FindLove has suspended the profile, so it can't be used or edited. Contact us if you think this is a mistake.

Taking a break

Pausing and resuming

Pause your profile when you want time away without losing anything.

Where to find it

On the web, use "Pause my profile" in the sidebar. In the app, open your profile and choose "Pause profile". The same place offers to resume.

What pausing does

Nobody can find you while you're paused, and you don't receive daily introductions. Your existing conversations stay open, and nothing is deleted.

Only after approval

You can pause once your profile is active. While it's waiting for review, the option isn't available yet.

Resume whenever you're ready

Resuming makes your profile active again straight away. Everything you'd written and shared is just as you left it.

Writing it well

What helps, and what to keep back

Your dashboard suggests what to add next. These are the same suggestions, with the privacy advice from the onboarding form.

What helps

The details members look for

  • Your age and height: they're the first two filters members apply.
  • Your current profession: it's the single line members read before anything else.
  • A real "in your own words" section. Members who write honestly are contacted far more often than those who list adjectives.
  • At least one photograph that members can see.
What to keep back

Things that identify you too soon

  • Your legal name. Your display name can be initials, a first name, or blank.
  • Your employer's name or your street. For an organisation, you can write something like "a listed conglomerate".
  • An institution's name, if you'd rather show only the qualification.
  • Your family background. It's only ever shown to friends, and many members leave it for later conversations.
Afterwards

Editing your profile later

See it the way others do

Your profile preview shows every section in full, labelled with who can see it. Finish takes you there, and so does "Back to profile" from the first step.

Edit whenever you like

Choose Edit profile from your preview or from Settings, then Profiles. Changes save when you move to another step or choose Save and close, and apply straight away.

Your display name

Leave it blank and you appear as "A verified member". You can add or change it at any time in the About you step.

Deleting a profile

Delete profile, on the profile screen in the app, removes a profile permanently. If you only want a break, pause it instead.

Pick up where you left off.

Onboarding opens at the About you step. Everything you've already written is still there.
