How verification works

Verifying your identity tells other members that a real person, checked by our team, stands behind your profile. This guide explains how to verify yourself, why we sometimes ask you to, and what happens to the documents you share.

The short version

Checked by a person

You upload a government-issued ID and someone on our team checks it against your profile. Approval earns the Identity Verified badge.

Your documents stay private

Only you and our team can open what you upload. Other members see the badge, never the document behind it.

Sometimes we ask first

After a report or unusual activity, our team may ask you to verify. Being asked isn't an accusation.

Why verify

What verification gives you

Verification is free and optional. Once our team approves it, two things change.

The Identity Verified badge

The badge appears beside your name wherever members can see your profile. It tells them our team has matched your name and date of birth to an official ID.

Sections shared with verified members

Members can share parts of their profile with Anyone verified. Once you're verified, you can see those sections too.

One badge per person

A badge belongs to the profile it was earned on. If your account holds more than one profile, each person verifies with their own ID.

Verifying yourself

Five steps, from upload to badge.

You can start whenever you like, on the web in the Verification Center or in the FindLove app. There is no selfie to take and nothing to pay.

If you stop partway, nothing is lost. Starting again picks up where you left off.

  1. Step 1

Complete your name and date of birth

We check these against your ID, so add them to your profile first. Use them exactly as they appear on your document.

  2. Step 2

    Open the Verification Center

Choose to verify your identity for the profile you're using. If you've already started, or our team has asked you to verify, you continue that same request.

  3. Step 3

    Upload your ID

A clear photo or scan of your passport, national ID card or driver's licence, including both sides where needed. You can add a note for the reviewer.

  4. Step 4

    A person reviews it

Submissions are reviewed by our team in the order they arrive. There's no automated check, and nothing to do while you wait.

  5. Step 5

    Hear back by email

We email you when there's a decision. If it's approved, your badge appears straight away. If not, we explain why and you can upload again.

When we ask

If our team asks you to verify

Most members verify on their own. Occasionally our team asks a member to verify, and the request comes to you rather than the other way round.

Why we might ask

Usually because another member has reported a concern, or because we've noticed unusual activity on an account. Verifying helps us confirm a real person is behind the profile.

It isn't an accusation

A request means we want to check, not that we've decided anything. If a request follows a report, we never tell you who made it.

How you'll know

We email you and add an alert to your account. The request appears in your Verification Center with a note from our team explaining what we need.

How to respond

Upload your documents just as you would if you'd started verification yourself. The review is the same, and an approval earns the same Identity Verified badge.

If you don't respond

If you don't respond, or we can't verify your identity, we may pause or restrict your profile while we look into the matter. Questions? Contact us and a person will reply.

Your documents

What to upload, and who sees it

The same rules apply whether you started verification yourself or we asked you to.

What to upload

A clear, government-issued ID

  • A passport, national ID card or driver's licence showing your name and date of birth.
  • Up to five files per submission, as JPG, PNG, WebP or PDF, each up to 15 MB.
  • Make sure every detail is readable. A blurry or cropped photo is the most common reason we ask for another upload.
Kept private

Seen only by you and our team

  • Your documents are stored privately and opened only by you and the FindLove team.
  • They never appear on your profile. Other members see the badge, not the document.
  • Every submission you make stays in your Verification Center, with our decision on each one.
Afterwards

Keeping your badge

Changing your name or date of birth

Your badge confirms the name and date of birth we checked. Change either one and the badge comes off until you verify again with the new details.

Changes during review

If you change your name or date of birth while we're reviewing your documents, we'll ask you to submit again so we can check the new details.

If your submission is rejected

We always say why. Read the reason in your Verification Center, fix what we asked for and upload again. There's no limit on how many times you can try.

Ready when you are.

Your Verification Center shows any requests from our team and lets you start, continue or check on your own verification.
