How introductions and discovery work
There are two ways to meet people on FindLove. Each morning we introduce you to a few members who suit what you're looking for, and whenever you like, you can browse everyone in Discover.
This guide explains who gets introduced, what happens when you express interest or pass, and how Discover decides who to show first.
A few introductions each morning
At 07:00 Sri Lanka time we pick up to 4 members who suit you, and who you suit in return.
Interest is mutual or nothing
You match only when you both express interest. Nobody is told when you pass, and interest that isn't returned ends quietly after 30 days.
Discover uses only what's shared with you
Filters and sorting in Discover only use details a member has released to you. Nothing hidden can be found by searching.
Your daily introductions
Introductions are a short list picked for you each day. You'll find them under Today's introductions on your dashboard, and under Daily introductions on the Discover tab in the app. Both show the same list.
New introductions at 07:00 Sri Lanka time
Each day's introductions are ready at 07:00 Sri Lanka time and last until 07:00 the next morning. If your dashboard is open at 07:00, it updates by itself.
Up to 4 people a day
We introduce you to up to 4 people each day. On a quiet day you may get fewer, or none at all.
Chosen once, never topped up
Your list is chosen once each morning. People leave it as you answer them, and nobody is added in their place. When you've answered everyone, you're finished for the day.
Checked again every time you look
If someone on your list pauses their profile or stops being suitable, they leave the list straight away. If you try to answer them, you'll see that the introduction is no longer available.
No repeats for 7 days
Someone we've introduced you to isn't introduced again for 7 days, even if you didn't answer.
Only while your profile is live
A paused profile gets no introductions. Resume it and you'll get introductions again from the next time you look.
Introductions work in both directions.
We only introduce two people when each of them suits what the other is looking for. Every check below has to pass for both of you.
Introductions use the preferences in the "What you are seeking" part of your profile. If you rarely get any, try widening your age range there.
You want compatible things
Marriage-minded members meet marriage-minded members and members who are open to either. Members dating seriously meet others dating seriously and those open to either. If you're open to either, you can meet anyone.
You're each who the other is seeking
They're the gender you're seeking, or anyone if you chose Open. And you have to be who they're seeking, too. Your profile's gender and preferences are used for introductions.
You're each in the other's age range
Their age falls within your minimum and maximum, and yours falls within theirs. If you haven't set a minimum, we use 18. Members without a date of birth aren't introduced.
You haven't already answered them
We skip people you've already expressed interest in or passed on, people you've matched with, your friends, and anyone with a friend request waiting between you.
Neither of you has blocked the other
If either of you blocks the other, you'll never be introduced, and neither of you appears in the other's Discover.
Their profile is live
Paused, closed and suspended profiles are never introduced.
Who comes first
When more people qualify than we can introduce, we put them in order and take the first few. This is the order we use.
1. What you have in common
Sharing at least one value counts twice. Speaking a language in common counts once, and so does choosing the same relationship timeline. People with more in common come first.
2. Where they live
If you said under Where they live that you're looking in Sri Lanka only, abroad only or in a specific country, people who live there come first. Others can still be introduced.
3. How near they are
If you've shared your location in the app, people closer to you come next. If you haven't, this step is skipped.
4. A fresh shuffle each day
Anyone still level is shuffled again each day, so the same people don't always come out on top.
An order, never a score
We use these signals to put people in order. We never turn them into a compatibility percentage, and nobody sees how you were ranked.
Expressing interest and passing
Each introduction has two buttons: Express interest and Pass. Whichever you choose, the introduction leaves your list.
Express interest
They'll see you under Interest received, in Matches on the web or on the Interest page in the app. If they express interest in you too, you match, and your conversation opens in Matches.
Pass
They aren't told. You won't be introduced to them again, and after 90 days the pass is cleared so they can be introduced once more. Passing doesn't hide them from Discover.
Your answer is final
You can't take back interest or a pass once you've given it, so take a moment to look at their full profile first. Tap an introduction in the app to open it.
Answering elsewhere counts too
If you express interest in someone from Discover, or from their profile in the app, that also answers their introduction, and it leaves your list.
Interest that isn't returned fades away
Interest isn't meant to hang over anyone forever. If it isn't returned, it quietly comes to an end.
Unreturned interest ends after 30 days
If someone hasn't returned your interest 30 days after you expressed it, it ends. It leaves your Interest sent and their Interest received, and nobody is notified.
Some interest never ends
Interest doesn't expire if it has been returned, if you've matched, if you're friends, or if the two of you have a conversation.
A second chance
Once interest has ended, you can be introduced to each other again, and you can express interest again if you'd like to.
Browsing everyone
Discover lists every member you're allowed to see, and lets you narrow the list yourself. Unlike introductions, it doesn't apply your age or gender preferences for you. Use the filters instead.
Who appears
Members with a compatible intent whose profiles are live, except people you've blocked or who have blocked you, your friends, and anyone with a friend request waiting between you.
The filters
Narrow the list by Age, Height, where people are Located, Industry, Intent, Gender and Faith. Under Only show you can also ask for people who have released a photograph to you, would move for the right person or are planning a move, were active in the last seven days, or have a verified qualification released to you.
Search near me
Use Near me to find members close to your browser's location. It searches within 25 km unless you choose another distance, and the smallest distance is 5 km.
Filters only use what's released to you
The Industry filter only uses work details a member has released to you. The photograph and qualification filters work the same way. A filter can't reveal anything someone has chosen to keep from you.
Verified qualifications
Our team checks qualifications against documents. A qualification only counts while its approval stands, and only if the member's Education section is released to you.
Three ways to order Discover
Choose an order at the top of Discover. Suggested is chosen by default on web and mobile.
Suggested
- Sharing a value counts twice. Sharing a language or your relationship timeline counts once each. The more you have in common, the higher someone appears.
- It only uses the values and timeline a member has released to you.
- When people are level, newer profiles come first. It's an order, never a percentage.
Recently active
- Members who used FindLove most recently come first, compared by day.
- Only members who allow activity-based discovery are placed by activity. Everyone else follows them.
- When people are level, newer profiles come first.
Newest
- The most recently created profiles come first.
- A good way to see who has joined since you last looked.
Being found as recently active
Only the day, never the time
Discovery uses the day you last used FindLove. That day decides where you appear under Recently active, and whether you show up for Active in the last seven days. That means today and the six days before it. The time of day is never used, and other members never see when you were active.
On unless you turn it off
Activity-based discovery is on when you join. To turn it off, open your dashboard on the web and choose Turn off in the Your visibility panel. You can turn it back on the same way.
What turning it off changes
Your activity stops affecting discovery. You appear after recently active members under Recently active, and you're left out of Active in the last seven days. Everything else stays the same.
What discovery never does
Some things are true whichever page you're on and whatever filters you choose.
What other members never see
- A compatibility score or percentage, for you or anyone else.
- The time you were last active. At most, the day is used, and only if you allow it.
- That you passed on them.
- Interest that has expired. It simply disappears.
Who you're never introduced to
- Anyone you've blocked, or who has blocked you.
- Anyone outside your age range or the gender you're seeking, or anyone whose preferences you don't fit.
- Anyone whose intent doesn't fit yours.
See who's waiting for you today.
Your dashboard shows today's introductions and when the next ones arrive.
