What happens when you report or block someone
FindLove gives you two ways to deal with someone who makes you uncomfortable. Report them and our team looks into it. Block them and the two of you stop crossing paths, straight away. You can do both.
This guide explains where to find each one, what happens after you use it, and what the other person does and doesn't see.
A person reads every report
Reports go to our trust and safety team, not an automated filter. They decide whether to warn the member, remove them, or take no action.
Your name stays out of it
The member you report is never told who reported them. If we warn them or act on their profile, they're told the reason, nothing more.
Blocking is instant and quiet
Block someone and you disappear from each other's browsing and conversations. They aren't notified, and you can undo it.
Where you can report someone
Look for Report, or the flag button. A report is always about a person, and it records where you made it.
From their profile, on the website or in the app
Choose Report beside their name. Use this for a fake profile, misleading photographs or anything else on the page itself.
From a conversation, on the website or in the app
Choose Report at the top of the conversation. This reports the other person and records which conversation the report came from, so use it for anything said in messages.
Pick the reason that fits best
Every report needs a reason. If more than one fits, choose the most serious and explain the rest in the details.
Spam or scam
Advertising, links to other sites, requests for money, or offers that seem too good to be true.
Harassment or hate
Threats, insults, repeated unwanted contact, or abuse about someone's religion, ethnicity, gender or anything else about who they are.
Inappropriate content
Sexual, violent or offensive photographs or messages, or anything you didn't ask to see.
Fake profile
Someone pretending to be another person, using photographs that aren't theirs, or misrepresenting who they are.
Child safety
Anything that might involve the sexual abuse or exploitation of a child, or a member who appears to be under 18. Don't screenshot or forward images that may show a child; tell us where they are instead.
Safety concern
Anything that makes you worried for your safety or someone else's.
Other
Something that doesn't fit the other reasons. Explain what happened in the details.
Details make a report useful
The details box is optional, but it is often what lets our team act. You can write up to 2,000 characters.
Say what happened, and when
A sentence or two is enough: what they said or did, roughly when, and why it worried you.
Point to the evidence
Mention the message, photograph or detail you mean, and add any links that help. Our team reviews the report with what you give us.
Report honestly
Reports are for real problems, not disagreements. Deliberately false reports can lead to action against your own account.
A person reviews it, then decides.
Your report joins a review queue as pending. Someone on our team reads it, then either marks it reviewed with no action, or takes one of the actions below and records why.
Once an action is applied to a report it can't be changed, and every action records the team member who took it.
Reviewed, with nothing to change
The report is kept on record, and the member's profile and account carry on as before.
The member is warned
They receive a moderation warning in their Alerts, naming the reason, and are told that further problems can lead to a ban. Their profile stays visible.
The profile is taken out of circulation
It is hidden from other members and can no longer send messages, friend requests or interest. The member is told, and can't resume or delete it.
The profile is removed
It disappears from browsing and from the member's own list of profiles. The member is told, and the profile's records and the report are kept.
The whole account is closed to them
Every profile on the account is banned, the member is signed out of the website and the app everywhere, and they can't sign in again.
Photo review and text checks
Every profile photograph is reviewed by a person before other members can see it. Review time varies; we do not promise a fixed turnaround. Your photo manager shows In review or a rejection reason, and a rejection also sends an in-app alert.
Submitted messages and member-visible profile text, including photo captions, are automatically matched against an administrator-maintained list of words and phrases. Matching text is refused before it is saved or sent, with the field error “goes against our Community Guidelines”. Revise the text or email legal@findlove.lk if you think the refusal is mistaken. This is term matching, not AI moderation.
Reports and contact forms are not filtered. A person reads every report; the text check does not decide its outcome. Our team is alerted to new reports, but this is not an emergency response service and we do not promise a fixed resolution time.
Our team can remove an individual message or ban an account without waiting for a report. A removed message shows “This message was removed” in the conversation.
Who is told what
The member you report
They aren't told that a report was made, or by whom. If our team takes action, they receive an alert explaining the action and the reason. Your name is never included.
Our trust and safety team
The team can see who made a report, so they can understand the context. That stays within the team.
You
You'll see a thank-you as soon as your report is sent. We don't currently send updates on the outcome. If you need to follow up, write to us through the contact page.
What blocking someone changes
A block takes effect immediately and works in both directions: you stop seeing them, and they stop seeing you.
You leave each other's browsing
Neither of you appears to the other in Discover or daily introductions, and neither of you can express interest in the other.
Conversations close to new messages
Neither of you can send a new message, in an existing conversation or a new one. What you've already written stays there for both of you to read, and no new message notifications arrive about them.
Released photographs close
Photographs either of you released in a conversation can no longer be opened by the other, and neither of you can release new ones.
Friend requests are withdrawn
Any pending friend request between you is removed, in either direction, and a new one can't be accepted while the block stands.
Their profile is set aside
If you open their profile, you'll see that you've blocked them, and nothing else on the page loads.
They aren't told
There's no notification. Your conversation shows as closed to new messages, just as it would if a profile were no longer available, so they can't tell a block apart.
Report, block, or both
Blocking protects you straight away. Reporting helps us protect everyone else. If someone has broken the rules, do both.
Asks our team to look into it
- For anything that breaks the rules: scams, abuse, fake profiles or safety worries.
- Can lead to a warning, a ban or removal, which protects other members too.
- Doesn't change what you see on its own. Block them as well if you want them gone now.
Puts distance between you, now
- For anyone you'd rather not hear from, whether or not they've done anything wrong.
- Works straight away and only between the two of you. Nobody else is affected.
- You can lift it whenever you like.
Blocking and changing your mind
Where to block someone
On the website, choose Block on their profile, or beside their request on your friend requests page. In the app, choose Block on their profile or from the conversation's menu.
It belongs to the profile you're using
A block keeps your profile and the other member's profile apart.
Friendships and matches aren't deleted
Blocking doesn't remove an existing friendship or match, but it does close anything you'd shared as Matches & friends. To also close your social links and family background, choose Withdraw beside them in your friends list.
Removing a block
Open their profile, for example from your friends list or an old conversation, choose Unblock. In the app, open Blocked members from your Profile screen and choose Unblock. Normal interactions resume, but friend requests that were withdrawn don't come back. If you can't find their profile, write to us and we'll help.
Contact your local emergency services first.
FindLove can't send help. If you feel unsafe right now, or someone has threatened you, call the emergency services where you are, or go somewhere safe and public. Report the member to us once you're safe, so we can act on our side.
For advice on meeting safely and spotting scams, read our trust and safety guide .
If you think a child is at risk, report it with the Child safety reason or email legal@findlove.lk. Our child safety standards explain what we prohibit and what we do.
Something doesn't feel right?
Open the conversation or profile and choose Report. Every report is read by a person on our team.
