Private photos

Your photographs are the most personal part of your profile, so each one has its own audience. You can also show a photograph to one person in a conversation without changing who else sees it.

This guide explains how that works and what happens to a photograph when you remove it.

The short version

Each photograph has its own audience

Choose who sees each of your profile photographs, from Members only to Hidden. Nobody can load a photograph its setting doesn't release to them.

Release one photograph to one person

In a conversation, you can release a photograph to the other person only, and revoke it whenever you like.

Profile photographs only

Galleries have been withdrawn. Every photograph you share now lives on your profile, behind its own audience.

Profile photographs

Up to five photographs, each with its own audience

You add photographs in the Photographs and links step of your profile, or under Photos in the FindLove app. Each one has a description and its own Visible to setting.

Photographs use the same four audiences as the rest of your profile. How visibility works explains each one.

Up to 5 photographs

You can keep up to 5 photographs on a profile. Remove one to make room for another.

New photographs start with Members only visibility

Every photograph is added with Members only visibility. Open it and choose Visible to if you'd rather keep it for verified members, your matches and friends, or yourself. Your choice applies straight away.

A short description, if you want one

Add a description of up to 160 characters, such as "At work". It's optional.

Your first photograph leads

Your photographs appear in order. Each member sees the first one released to them, and someone who can't see any of them sees "Photo hidden". In the FindLove app, use Move up and Move down to change the order.

Formats and size

JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 10 MB each.

How photographs are framed

Member cards use a 4:5 portrait cropped around the centre of your photograph, so keep your face near the middle. Opening a photograph shows a larger version, up to 2,048 pixels on its longest side.

Photo review

Reviewed before anyone else can see it

A person on our team reviews each profile photograph before other members can see it, on the website and in the app. This also applies to photographs released in a conversation. Approval still respects the audience you choose.

In review

You can see your upload straight away, labelled In review. Other members cannot see it yet. Review time varies; we do not promise a fixed turnaround.

If a photograph is rejected

The reason appears beside the photograph in your photo manager and in an in-app alert. It stays hidden from other members. Remove it and upload one that follows the photo rules, or email legal@findlove.lk from your registered address if you think we made a mistake.

Rejected photographs are kept for 30 days

After 30 days from rejection, a daily process removes the photo record and queues stored copies for deletion. File cleanup retries after failures and can take longer. You can remove the photograph sooner.

Read the photo rules
Releasing a photograph

Show one photograph to one person.

Sometimes you want someone you're talking to to see a photograph without opening it to everyone in the same audience. A release does exactly that, and only in one conversation.

Releasing is done from a conversation on the FindLove website.

  1. Step 1

    Open the conversation

Releasing works in a conversation between you and one other member. Both of your profiles need to be active, and neither of you can have blocked the other.

  2. Step 2

    Choose Release a photo

The button sits above the conversation. It opens Your photographs, which shows each of your photographs with its current audience.

  3. Step 3

    Select Release here

The photograph is released to the other person, in this conversation only. Its profile audience stays the same, so nobody else gains access.

  4. Step 4

    It appears in the conversation

Released photographs are shown under Photographs visible here at the top of the conversation, for both of you. Releasing doesn't send a message.

  5. Step 5

    Revoke whenever you like

Select Revoke release and the photograph closes to them straight away. FindLove checks access every time a photograph is loaded, and tells browsers not to keep a copy.

Automatic

When a release ends on its own

You can revoke a release at any time, but some changes end it for you. A release that has ended stays ended: nothing is released again unless you choose to.

Either of you archives the conversation

Archiving ends every release in that conversation, in both directions. If the conversation reopens later, the releases don't come back.

Either of you blocks the other

Releases between you end at once. While a block is in place, neither of you can load the other's photographs at all, whatever their audience.

A profile is paused or stops being active

Pausing your profile ends every release you've made and every release made to you. They aren't restored when you return.

A friendship or match between you ends

Releases between the two of you end, even if the conversation itself stays open.

You remove the photograph

Removing a photograph deletes it, including from every conversation it was released in.

Our team bans an account

Every release to or from a banned account ends.

Galleries

Galleries are no longer available

Galleries didn't have audience settings, and their photographs weren't behind the per-viewer checks that protect profile photographs, so we've withdrawn them. Keep the photographs you want to share in your profile, where each one has its own audience.

If you made a gallery before and want its photographs removed now, email legal@findlove.lk from your registered address. Deleting your account also removes them.

Behind the scenes

How we store and show your photographs

Profile photographs are kept privately and checked on every view. Removing a photograph deletes it rather than hiding it.

Profile photographs

Private, and checked on every view

  • Stored privately, never at a public web address.
  • Shown by FindLove only after checking that the person viewing may see it, every time.
  • Marked so browsers don't keep a copy, so a new audience or a revoked release applies on the next view.
  • Hidden details such as camera information and location are stripped when we save our copies. The file you uploaded isn't kept.
When you remove them

Deleted, not hidden

  • Removing a profile photograph deletes our stored copies and ends any releases of it.
Good to know

Moderation, and what nobody can undo

Our team can see photographs

FindLove's moderators can see any photograph when reviewing a profile or a report, and can remove one that breaks our rules.

Report a photograph that worries you

Choose Report on a profile or in a conversation, and pick Inappropriate content. Reports are read by a person.

A copy already saved can't be recalled

Revoking a release or changing an audience stops future views, but it can't remove a screenshot or copy someone has already made. Release a photograph only to someone you trust with it.

Choose who sees each photograph.

Review your photographs and their audiences in the Photographs and links step of your profile.
